Blue Springs South junior Madi Hecker was selected to the All-State softball team as an infielder.

This was a well-deserved accolade considering Hecker not only batted safely in twenty of the Lady Jaguars twenty-four games, but also shattered a school record with a .525 batting average on the season.

“We always knew she had a bat, it was only a matter of time before the whole state knew so, too,” said head coach Kristi Williams.

Hecker had previously played catcher her first two years of high school. Over the summer, however, she made the transition to third base. It was a smooth transition as Hecker has turned into arguably the most highly touted left side infielder in the metro.

“I was very comfortable behind the plate. Williams and I worked all summer at third base so I became comfortable over there too. I owe it all to her,” said Hecker.

After shredding through the Suburban Big Six her junior year, Hecker will likely be pitched to with caution her senior year. Williams believes it will turn out alright.

“We have a ton of power to protect her in the lineup; if the teams we play don’t pitch to our power they will have trouble throughout. I believe Madi will find a way to stay hot no matter what kinds of pitches she sees,” said Williams.

Hecker is an extremely hard worker. She is hungry for success and loves meeting her potential.

“It only takes a little taste of success to ignite a fire in Madi. She is very goal oriented and won’t let anything hold her back from what she wants. I have no doubt that she will be just as impressive next season as this one because there is nobody else willing to work harder,” said Williams.
