As spring sports start back up, the boy’s tennis team is putting in hard work for the upcoming season.

Junior Dalton Michael explains how hard the team has been working at practice every day to accomplish their goal of winning conference and districts.

“This year we have been working really hard. We’ve been putting in the hours, been grinding, been running a lot of line drills, just all the normal tennis stuff,” Michael said. “Last year we didn’t win conference or districts, pretty saddening, but this year; we are going to destroy the competition and win them both.“

Senior Nic Mandina explains who he thinks the team’s toughest opponent in conference will be this year.

“Lee’s Summit will probably be our toughest competition in conference. Lee’s Summit North and West won’t be as hard because they lost most of their varsity players last year. Lee’s Summit still has their top four players so that will be competition for us,” said Mandina.

Assistant Coach Jakob Estep explains how although the team lost some key players last year, this year’s boys are ready to play and working hard to improve.

“This year has been a bit of a rebuilding year for us, just because we lost so many guys from the year before,” Estep said. “It was definitely a year of growth, so this year we returned with a pretty solid core group of four guys. It’s hard to say how we’ll be since we haven’t played any matches yet, but in practice we are looking pretty competitive. I’d say all the guys have improved and we have a lot of new, young, hungry talent as well to fill the lower varsity spots. It’s a fun group of guys this year.”

The boy’s first home match is Monday, April 4 at 4:00 against Park Hill.
