Blue Springs South volleyball began its season with only one loss. The team has won all but one of their tournaments, placing second in the one they lost.

This year’s seniors are focused on leading the team. Senior Camryn Gregston said, “I just want to have a great season and be the best for my team.”

Another senior, Payton Masoner said that, as a senior, she hopes to “improve as a positive team leader.”

The team has many big goals for this season, including winning conference and districts and competing in the state tournament. Masoner said,” We’re hoping to win districts this year and our main goal is to go to state.” This has been a goal of the team for some time.

“We’ve been talking about that (going to state) for a long time,” said Masoner.

Gregston said, “We want to win districts, win conference, and go to State.”

Coach Dave Maclean said that leadership from the seniors and taking the season one match at a time will be paramount.

“When it comes to matches, it’s ‘beginning with the end in mind’, not being too high after a win or too low after a loss. Just attach every match one at a time.” said Maclean.

The team’s goals being what they are, there will be challenges. Gregston said, “I think our biggest challenge will be ourselves. If anybody is going to stop us, it will be us.”

Maclean said, “We have talented players on all our teams. It’s getting them to be ‘all in’ and have a common goal that’s necessary and really hard to accomplish.

When asked how the team hopes to overcome these challenges, Masoner said, “We just have to stick together as a team.” Coach Maclean said the team must focus on getting “two points better.”

“We feel that with the daily grind of practice we can lose focus, so we set as a main goal to always improve by as little as two points or two percent. We feel that over time those little changes will add to be big results,” MacLean said.

This year’s team has set its sights on a conference and district title with the hopes of going to state. They have started off their season with only one loss and won all but one tournament thus far.  This Saturday they host the Blue Springs South Tournament at Blue Springs Field House.  Also, they host “Dig Pink” for Breast Cancer awareness on October 1
