A fairly new feature to South school years has been the addition of honoring a student of the month. For the month of February, Kadie Clark was the recipient of that honor.

Clark is a stand-out student and her teachers have recognized that. A panel of South teachers select the monthly student deserving of the honor, and Clark’s qualifications seem to meet the level needed for recognition.

Clark is a successful athlete for South’s girls swim team, a member of student Senate, a leader of the community Youth Advisory Council, an honor roll student, a National Honor Society officer and a member of the Blue Springs South band.

On her achievement, Clark was very proud.

“It’s a very humbling experience to think that your teachers and your peers and everybody recognizes you as someone who not only deserves recognition but upholds those morals that makes student of the month something that is revered,” Clark said.

The student of the month gets star treatment. Just think, we have more than 1,000 students at South and one each month gets the title of student of the month attached to their resume. The special student will have their name plastered on the announcements at lunch for a while and also their picture is physically plastered to a bulletin board that can be found in the commons. Along with this, the student will get a parking space that is considered prime real estate in the blue lot immediately behind the school.

It seems student of the month is not only something that Clark deserves but will benefit from for at least a month.
