The Blue Springs South girls cross country team is off to a great start due to all the girls’ effort put in everyday after school.

Cross-country isn’t just a fall sport, but also summer. The girls woke up at 7 a.m. every morning during the summer.  Senior Jansynn Radford talked about how the practices were worth it in the end.

“Summer training was hard to get up at 7 a.m. and be on the trail, and run, but it was fun,” Radford said.

Senior Jessie Halla had the same opinion on summer training.

“The summer training is good and helps girls prepare for the season, and get their fitness up,” Halla said.

The girls team is very close and has an unbreakable bond. Halla loves her team and had nothing but positive things to say about them.

I like running with the girls because it’s more of a family atmosphere and we all work together to push one another

,” Halla said.

Most people would consider cross-country as an individual sport, but South girls are one team. They do many activities together rather than just running such

as sleepovers, pasta parties, and other team bonding activities.

“I like the team atmosphere and how close all of us girls are,” Radford said.

Junior Olivia Moore was also moved by how close the girls were.

“I like running with all my friends and going through it all together since it’s hard and we all have each other’s support,” Moore said.

A few members on the cross-country team mentioned how excited they were for the Rim Rock meet at the University of Kansas, which is also their favorite meet. Halla talked about how excited she was about Rim Rock.

“My favorite course is Kansas rim rock and there will be about 30 teams there so it should be fun,” Halla said.

Coach Ryan Unruh agreed that Rim rock is his favorite course for the girls.

“It’s the best race of the year, and the girls are ready to run fast,” Unruh said.

Unruh is really looking forward to the rest of this year and has a lot of belief in the girls.

“The girls are doing great they are a lot of fun to be around. They work hard, listen, and have a lot of potential.”
