Girls track is strong in every event

This year’s girls track and field team is starting off with a lot of depth in all the events.

The girls have been working hard after school to get prepared for this year’s season.

Senior Corinne Cleveland says the beginning of the season has gone well.

“We are working in the weight room more frequently this season and also working on techniques for the throws. The first week has gone well and we have had new people come to practice every day” Cleveland said.

One of the strengths of this year’s team is the depth that they have. They have good people in every event, as opposed to having one really strong event. Coach RyanUnruh says he’s looking forward to seeing it in a meet.

“We have good balance, sprints, throws, jumps, distance. The sprinters will be big point scorers for us and will kinda be the foundation of our team this season,” said Unruh.

Senior Emma Bassford said she’s excited for the season to get started.

“I did off-season training in the winter, which consisted of meeting in Unruh’s room and then going outside and running every day after school. We would do different running workouts depending on the day,” said Bassford.

She said one of the biggest things she’s looking forward to is seeing the hard work pay off.

“The beginning of the season has gone really well, and I’m excited to compete. It’s fun to see everyone’s hard work pay off,” said Bassford.

Cleveland is looking forward having more throwers than in previous years.

“I’m really excited for this season, we have a lot of new athletes that show a lot of potential and returning athletes, not just for the throwers but for the whole team. I can’t wait for what the rest of the season holds for us,” Cleveland said.

The Jaguars will host the Rusty Hodge Invitational on Thursday.
