South’s December student of the month is Junior Bailey Hendrickson.

Hendrickson is a new student to the district, coming from Oklahoma.

Her initial reaction to being chosen was shock and happiness that she was picked.

“I was surprised but I feel special,” Hendrickson said.

Hendrickson is an officer in FCA and will be trying out for soccer this spring. As this is her first year at South, she talked about how much she loves this school.

Her favorite things about South are the teachers and the way she has been welcomed into the school environment.

She has even talked about wanting to become an ambassador next year so that she can help other new students like herself get around and feel welcomed just like others have done for her.

One of the teachers that nominated Hendrickson is science teacher Donna Stotts.

One reason Stotts decided to nominate Hendrickson was  because she is a transfer student who didn’t wait for others to befriend her; she jumped right in and made her way without help. Stotts also gave another reason. “She is an FCA officer, and without knowing anyone she stood up and talked about her faith in front of kids she didn’t even know,” Stotts said.

Stotts talked about how well she adapts to new environments and that some students didn’t even know she was new to the school district because she seems like she has been here since the beginning.

“She thinks about other people first before herself,” Stotts said.

Many people know her for being compassionate, kind, friendly and always happy and respectful.

“She has made herself apart of South without having to be invited to do so,” Stotts said.
