South’s girl’s basketball team is playing its conference games with a hopeful and optimistic attitude, and the players are prepared to start winning some titles.

With a record of 10-3 throughout the season and a conference record of 2-2, these jaguars don’t see any major losses in their future and are looking to achieving their first goal, which is dominating conference, and becoming conference champions.

These girls say that they are hopeful in achieving this goal but in order to do so they need to continue working hard and work with their disadvantages.

Senior Bailey Fowler said, “We are shorter and smaller than a lot of teams, so we need to keep working harder to get past this disadvantage.” Fowler said that she enjoys basketball because of the competitiveness and she is looking forward to the conference championships.

Another member of the girls basketball team, junior Kaylee Connors, is very excited for the team’s future this season. She talks about how she knows that the team’s potential and they have lost some games that they should have won but as they continue on practicing and working hard she knows the team can do great things. Connors has so much confidence for their team and has a optimistic outlook.

“Let’s just go for it, let’s go all the way!” said Connors.

She says that her favorite part of basketball is winning a great game with her teammates beside her. Connors says that she knows that the team has the strength to get very far during the season and as long as everyone continues to stay focused, work hard as a team and everybody is “all in,” that they have the possibility of becoming Conference champs, District champs all the way up  to making up to state.

The jags are currently in second place in conference right behind Lees summit North, (play on Monday at home). Coach Brad Oyler said that the reason that the team is playing so well this year is because they play hard and they play together, and his favorite part about watching the team play a successful game is seeing their hard work show, with making good plays and having good chemistry on the court.

“When I see them make a good play I can’t help but just to say ‘wow”

Their goal definitely to make it to the state tournament, and they have the opportunity to do this being that they recently “knocked off” a state ranked team. They would like to go as far as they could go. Oyler said that in order to get as far as they’d like, they have to keep working on fundamentals and keep improving on execution on both ends of the court.
