TV shows returning this Fall

Colton Robertson, Editor-in-Chief

It’s October, and that means that all of our favorite shows have made their way back onto television.

A popular network that began its fall lineup in October is The CW. They’ve became the premiere network for superhero shows, like ‘Supergirl,’ ‘The Flash,’ and ‘Arrow.’ They returned to television on October 9, 10, and 12, respectively. All of those are based in the DC Universe, and have even had some crossover episodes where you can see all the characters fighting evil together. My favorite of the three DC shows is ‘Arrow.’ The other two are also great, but ‘Arrow’ has a certain intense element to it that makes it more addicting. The CW also gained a new hit show about a year ago in ‘Riverdale.’ Season two began on October 11. The drama, while extremely cheesy, is still very entertaining.

NBC has also returned with a bang. ‘This is Us’ became a huge show last year, getting confirmed for a second and third season before the first season was even over. The show is one of the more powerful dramas I’ve ever watched, I highly recommend watching it. Season two arrived on the air on September 26. ‘The Blacklist’ returned to TV on October 4. This show is very intense, and messes with your perception of good and bad. One of the main characters, Raymond Reddington, is actually an evil man but you root for him. It’s confusing, but it’s cool.

ABC’s ‘Scandal’ and ‘Once Upon a Time’ returned to television on October 5 and 6, respectively. ‘Once Upon a Time’ is a good show for those who enjoy fantasy and the old Disney cartoon characters, like Cinderella, Snow White, and Peter Pan. The show brings in a realistic human aspect to all of the very unrealistic stuff that occurs in the show.

One of the most widely appreciated streaming services, Netflix also has shows returning this Fall. The biggest one, ‘Stranger Things,’ returns in one week, on October 27. Many questions loom over the return of the Emmy winning series, and that’s what makes it so exciting to watch. Another Netflix Original Series that returned is the spin-off of the late 80’s, early 90’s television sensation, ‘Full House.’ ‘Fuller House’ season three was released about a month ago, on September 22. It is just as you’d expect it to be, family friendly, and cute. Also, ‘Narcos’ returned for its third season in September. The high-intensity, attention-grabbing series continues at its high level, and is a great series if you’re willing to put all your attention into something for an hour or so.  A not-so-brand-new Netflix series is ‘Greenhouse Academy.’ The show only had its first season released in September, but it is based off a show that premiered in Iceland several years ago. The show is pretty dumb, but I found it extremely entertaining, and would definitely suggest watching it. A large disappointment coming out of Netflix is the removal of teen drama hit, ‘One Tree Hill.’ The show was taken off of Netflix in the last weekend of September.

Another streaming service, Hulu, has also made some big additions. They’ve added a series of 90’s sitcoms, like ‘Boy Meets World,’ ‘Full House,’ and ‘Family Matters.’ Hulu also pulled some other shows away from Netflix. ‘30 Rock’ and ‘Parenthood’ were both previously on Netflix, but now are exclusive to Hulu.

Fox brought back both ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Family Guy’ for more laughs, and also continued ‘Bob’s Burgers’ on October 1.
