Aniah Banful was selected as South’s December Student of the Month. She is known as a positive role model and even leaves positive, inspirational notes around the school.

Banful felt both humbled and excited about being named Student of the Month.

“It’s just cool to be recognized as someone who represents what South is all about. It’s just a really cool thing,” Banful said.

Banful is involved in a myriad of activities at South. She plays tennis and basketball and also runs track. In addition to sports, she is a representative on the Spirit Council, composed of students who demonstrate leadership and Jaguar Core Values.

History teacher, Kyle Plummer, nominated Banful because of her uplifting personality.

“She is just a very positive student and is very uplifting,” Plummer said. “Something that really got to me was her quote book that is full of inspiring quotes.”

Banful’s quote book is something that she uses not only for herself but to assist others.

Plummer explains how she uses the quote book to help “If she can see that someone is having a bad day or is feeling bad about something in their life, she will share an inspirational quote to help them feel better. I think that is just a really cool thing to do,” Plummer said.

Banful is also an excellent student, according to Plummer.

“She’s very inquisitive and asks great questions in class. She also adds thoughtfully to class discussions and brings a lot of things that I really appreciate as a teacher,” Plummer said.

Above all of the athletic and academic achievements, her kind demeanor is what her teachers and the Student of the Month committee feel set her apart from her peers.

“She’s just a very positive student who’s fun to have in class and she’s uplifting to those around her,” Plummer said.
