This year, Blue Springs South is going back to one of the most popular era’s with the school musical.

‘Back to the 80’s’ features popular songs from the 80’s that people know and love, like ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’, ‘Walking On Sunshine’, ‘(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life’, etc.

The show follows Corey Sr., played by Spencer Azimi-Tabrizzi, who is looking back on his senior year of high school and all of the craziness that happened during that specific year of his life.

Theatre President Lauren Manade is very excited for this musical.

“I play Mel and she is a part of the cool girl clique. I perform ‘Kids in America’ and it’s a really fun number to perform. This show is just so fun and so energetic,” Manade said.

Senior Morgan Wallace has never participated in a musical until now.

“My role is so much fun to play because I am very outspoken and rude. It is so much fun to play somebody polar opposite than yourself. My character, Cyndi rules the school and rules the boys. She gets around. I am very nervous because I have never done something like this before,” Wallace said.

Senior Nick Landon has never participated in a musical either.

“This is my very first musical and I play the cool guy that all of the girls fall head over heels for. It’s a love triangle between my character, Tiffany Houston, and Corey Jr. and you’ll have to come and find out who she chooses,” Landon said.

Sophomore Reese Betts plays Tiffany Houston, the girl next door.

“This show is a totally different style than other show that South has done. I think the older generations will love this show especially and the nostalgia of this era,” Betts said.

Senior Noah Sweeney plays Corey Jr., the younger version of Corey Sr. that is living in the 80’s.

Musical Director Susan Cooper is very excited for this show.
“We performed this show back in 2009 and we had a blast with it. Our audience keeps asking us, “When are you guys going to do that one again?” and finally, we decided to go with this one again because we thought we had the perfect group for it,” Cooper said.

‘Back to the 80’s’ will be on February 8th and 9th at 7pm, and February 10th at 1pm and 7pm. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The student matinee showing is on February 9th and tickets are $6.
