South JROTC drill team wins first place at Lee’s Summit North

On Saturday February 23rd, South’s JROTC drill team competed at Lee’s Summit North and won first out of 15 schools.

The team scored first in the following events: overall regulation drill, overall exhibition drill, unarmed regulation, armed color guard, armed exhibition, and unarmed exhibition. They scored second in armed regulation and unarmed color guard, and fourth in inspection team.

Some of the cadets also placed high on individual events.  Junior Krystal Hooten got first in individual drill down and senior Nathan Sheppard got third in armed solo exhibition.

This past Saturday, March 2nd, the drill team hosted its 25th annual BSSHS invitational Drill Meet where 19 schools are scheduled to compete.
