He is an assistant soccer coach and a history teacher at Blue Springs South; his name is Michael Brown.

Brown grew up in Lee’s Summit and he went to Lee’s Summit High School. He went to William Jewell college. Brown got his master’s degree at the University of Missouri Kansas City. Then he got his specialist degree at Arkansas State University.

Brown has been teaching for 12 years. He taught at Fort Osage for 5 years and then he taught at Oak Grove for 6 years.

What made Brown become a teacher was that he loved learning and education.

“I just always loved school and learning,” Brown said.

The main reason why Brown likes teaching is the relationships with his students and how mentally challenging the task is.

“In school, I didn’t want to do an office job. I wanted to be up and moving and facing new challenges every day,” Brown said.

Brown is involved in sports outside of school and at South. He played soccer in college, but after college he didn’t want to give up soccer, so he became a soccer coach. He is an assistant coach for the boys and girls teams here at South. Brown also coaches a club soccer team outside of school.

“It’s fun seeing kids develop, especially in high school you can see them over the course of four years and how they come in as freshman to where they leave as seniors is exiting, and how they improve as soccer players, but also as human beings,” Brown said.

When Brown isn’t coaching soccer, he is spending time with his family or doing his favorite hobbies. He likes to read, watch movies and ride his bike.
