Social Studies teacher and former coach Kyle Plummer is retiring at Blue Springs South.
Why did you get into teaching?
I got into teaching and coaching mainly from how much of a positive impact my old high school track and cross country coach had on me. I thought that would be pretty cool if I could have the same impact for my future athletes and students as my old coach had for me.
Where did you go to school HS & College?
I graduated from Blue Springs High School, back in the day when we only had one high school in town. I grew up on the south side of town but was not given the chance to attend such a great high school as Blue Springs South!
Where did you grow up?
Blue Springs- My old neighborhood was Lake Village- proud Cordill-Mason Elementary alumni.
Plans for after retirement
I’m going to help coach the Longview Community College Cross Country team next season. I want to become more involved with my church- maybe help out in the youth group program. I’m planning on doing a lot of traveling and riding my mountain bike.
Hobbies and Interests?
I like to stay active, be outside, hike, bike, run, yard work, travel, take care of my Golden Doodles.
Family?
I have my wife and two kids, who are 20 and 25 years old. My parents are still alive and well.
Why did you retire this year?
Because I’m old and feel we need a newer younger version of myself in the classroom. It’s time to put this old teacher out to pasture.
Have you teached/worked at any other school?
I’ve been blessed to have taught my entire career here at South. This is my 30th year at south.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss a lot of things! I will miss working with the best people- the Social Studies department rocks. I will miss talking with my students and being a part of their educational journey. I already miss coaching and helping my athletes achieve their goals.
Favorite memory?
I have many favorite memories- one that jumps out at me is when our 4×800 relay qualified for state and broke the school record in the process. I got to celebrate with them on the track, it was a very special moment.
