At South, Erin Hunt joins us as a lawyer and social studies teacher.
Although this is Hunts first year at South, she previously taught at Valley View High School for two years. Hunt is loving her first year at South.
“I have been enjoying getting to know my students,” she says, “I also have great coworkers.”
But teaching isn’t Hunts only job. She is also currently a lawyer and previously worked as a prosecuting lawyer for 16 years. Hunt says that her other job experiences are why she teaches social studies.
“I am a lawyer, so social studies fit nicely with my education and my prior experience as a practicing attorney.” she says.
Hunt graduated from two colleges, University of Missouri where she got her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. And University of Kansas where she has her juris doctorate.
The people who inspire Hunt aren’t just family and famous people but also those around her in her everyday life.
“I’m also often in awe of the teachers around me, who are so amazing at what they do, and of course, my students inspire me to work hard to be the best teacher I can be.” she says.
Hunt is married with 2 daughters, Clarice, 9 years old, and Theodora, 6 years old, who she loves to spend time with.
“We live in Blue Springs and enjoy summer a lot!” she says, “You can typically find us at the pool, a nearby playground, or Powell Gardens.”
When Hunt has her own free time, she likes to take a break and read outside.
“I like to read and be outside when it is nice,” she says, “I get cold easily, so winter is not my favorite season.”
As a new teacher, Hunt loves teaching at South.
“One of the things I love about teaching is how every day is so different,” she says, “Most days are great, but there are also challenges and trying moments at times. This makes me think of trail mix. Every bite is a little bit different, depending on the pieces. Some bites are tastier than others, but overall, it’s generally an enjoyable snack.”
