Junior Colin Miller is one of many promising musicians at Blue Springs South.

Miller has been making his own music for about a year and a half, but he really started to get more people to listen to his music about 6 months ago. He got involved in music through one of his friends, Ibrahim Yilla.

“He just really helped me get into it, and he’s been a really big influence in my life,” Miller said.

One of the things Miller likes most about making his own music is how he can get away from everything that is going on his life.

“I can kind of escape just into myself, and what I am feeling at the moment, and then express it into music,” Miller said.

Junior Colton Robertson got the chance to work with Miller on some music over the summer.

“He’s constantly reworking his music until he feels like it’s perfect, and that’s what makes him a great music producer,” Robertson said.

As well as making his own music, Miller is on the drum line at South, where he plays snares. He’s been playing the drums since 5th grade. The drumline recently got a new coaching staff, which is different because in previous years it has been mostly student led.

“We haven’t had much staff, we’ve had a lot of older people. We were blessed enough to get staff members this year, which we haven’t been able to have in the past. I really like them, I wouldn’t trade them out for anyone. I think they’re perfect,” Miller said.

Miller said drumline is different than making his own music in many ways.

“My music is more based upon myself, and it’s just kind of me creating the music. Drumline is more of a team unity system,” Miller said.

Miller said that he enjoys the balance between drumline and his own music.

“It’s a good balance. I get myself, but then I also have some of my bestfriends and I get to enjoy drumline with them,” Miller said..

In the future, he hopes to see himself making beats, and maybe falling into a career in that, however, that isn’t his main goal right now.

“Right now my main goal is school. Beats are something I can look forward to later in my life as a possibility,” Miller said.
