Christine Falk, the newest edition to South’s math department, is eager to bring her tips and tricks back to Blue Springs. She enjoys teaching math and the sense of accomplishment it gives students.
“I like trying to break down the content to help students learn and trying to motivate students to want to learn,” she says. “There is generally one right answer but different ways to get there.”
Falk has taught everywhere from Paul Kinder Middle School to the districts of Lee’s Summit and Farmington. Although she appreciates the many years of teaching in other areas, her time spent in Blue Springs has been her favorite.
“I was wanting to switch from teaching computer science and return to Blue Springs because it is the best district I’ve taught in,” she says.
Outside of school, Falk maintains a busy lifestyle. She is married and has two daughters, with whom she enjoys spending time with. The girls play volleyball, so practices and tournaments are always a highlight of the week. However, her work also occupies time.
“I’ve never quite figured out how to balance school and life,” Falk says. “I tend to work too much and do too much. When I’m finally caught up, I think of another idea that takes up all my time.”
Although Falk is highly involved in outside activities, she also enjoys her time here. She has connected with many teachers in her hallway and respects the people she gets to work with.
“All of the (math) teachers have been welcoming and very helpful,” she says.
When not at school or volleyball games, however, Falk also likes to travel. She has a couple of trips planned for this year that she is looking forward to.
“I will be going to Hawaii with my husband in December, and traveling with my youngest daughter for volleyball in the spring,” she says. “I’m sure I will go to Europe next summer. My husband likes to travel and leave the country when we get a chance.”
Falk’s busy schedule reminds her that family is just as important as work. She loves spending time with them and enjoys the memories they create together.
“I have the best family,” she says. “They remind me to relax, enjoy what I’m doing, and be grateful for everything I have.”
