Dustin Spencer loves Marvel movies, spending time with his family, and going to church. Now we have the opportunity to meet him.
Spencer is returning to South this year after working at Blue Springs high school. He returns as an assistant principal.
“South is where I started my career,” he said, “There are phenomenal people here, whom I’ve known for many years and have built great relationships with.”
Spencer never planned on being a principal and was originally a teacher, but those around him encouraged him to take his career a step further.
“It was not a goal of mine; I never thought I would be a principal,” he said. “I loved teaching and coaching and the relationships built with students and players. I had some influential mentors who saw something in me, and suggested I explore the pathway.
Spencer is excited to be connected to South again and be involved with all the great students and staff members we have.

Spencer says he enjoys the familial feel and the community at South. He also says he is excited for the future to come.
Spencer loves his wife and two kids, Simon; 12 and Samuel; 4. He spends all the time he can with his family from going to his sons’ sports games to sitting at the dinner table at night.
“We enjoy spending time outside at the house, the boys playing various sports, and we love sitting around a firepit making s’mores,” he said, “Go to church, watching sports, watching any and all Marvel movies, try to have dinner together at the table as much as possible, a little bit of traveling.”
Spencer is ready for this school year at South and is prepared for all the many surprises he will encounter this year.
“To quote the great Forrest Gump, it’s ‘like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.’” he says.
