The spirit of giving came early this year at Blue Springs South.

Community Unity Week occurred previously in the month and was a well-known success. A total of more than 44,000 items were donated district-wide, with 5,350 of those items coming from South.

Though a certain cross-town rival did not match South in charity, there was another school that gave more. South was not as proactive as Cordill-Mason Elementary, which brought in over 6,100 items. Regardless, it has been a record food drive.

Another Community Unity happening was more to do with monetary donations. Businesses in the area donated $1,800, and almost $500 was raised during a football game. An additional $400 was given by other means.

All proceeds went to the Community Services League of Blue Springs, a non-profit that serves over 19,000 needy households in Jackson County.

The Student Senate has since worked on other matters, most notably regarding the United Way Talent Show. Auditions are coming up next week.
