Gateway readers is a state organized booklist for students to read and vote on their favorite books. There are 15 books chosen by teachers, librarians, and students across the state.

“It’s a really good way to encourage students to read because they are high interest books chosen by students who have read and enjoyed them.” says librarian Abby Cole.

If students read at least 3 of the 15 books from the Gateway book list and turns in a reading log, they can then attend an ice cream party in the library during their lunch shift on the first week of March, where they can also vote on their favorite book. Those votes are added to votes from schools across the state to select the state winners.

“We have 15 really good choices this year; a lot of sci-fi this year and realistic fiction.” Says Cole.

The gateway reader book list this year consists of the following titles: “A List of Cages” by Robin Roe, “A Short History of The Girl Next Door” by Jared Reck, “Dear Martin” by Nic Stone, “Defy The Stars” by Claudia Gray, “Dreamland Burning” by Jennifer Latham, “Eliza and Her Monsters” by Fancesca Zappia, “Far From The Tree” by Robin Benway, “Goodbye Days : A Novel” by Jeff Zenter, “Invictus” by Ryan Graudin, “Moxie” by Jennifer Mathieu, “Nyxia” by Scott Reintgen, “One of Us is Lying” by Karen McManus, “Solider Boy” by Keely Hutton, “The Hate You Give” by Angie Thomas “The Names They Gave Us” by Emery Lord.
