The Jags continue to dominate in volleyball while improving their record and team every day. With their 11-4-1 varsity record and 14-4 JV record, the girls’ season is already looking better than their last.

Recently, the girls won the Winnetonka Tournament. They won six of their seven matches and tied the seventh. Another recent success for the team was their win over the state ranked Blue Springs Wildcats. Varsity and JV were both successful in defeating the Wildcats in only two sets each. The game was as competitive as could be; both teams fought hard. Junior Sydney Sinclair reflects on their win.

“It was so exciting for all of the girls, I think beating our rivals really brought us closer together as a team and pumped us all up even more for the Dig Pink game coming up,” Sinclair said.

The girls have improved significantly as a team since this time last year. Many of the players have high expectations for the team this year and have already set many goals. Junior and All-American volleyball player Shanice Horn states her views on the team.

“I feel like our team is now a national team. I think we’re going to go far. I think we’re going to districts and make it. Now that’s going to be fun,” Horn said.

Coach Dave MacLean is satisfied with their season so far and has set many goals for the girls too.

“Our goal is to stay moving forward to keep aiming for our best and to achieve a consistency in performance and focus. It all started with sacrifice, training, and hard work. We’ve won a few big matches and we hope to continue to reach for our potential headed towards districts,” MacLean said.

The Jags will continue play at Lee’s Summit on Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. and will play Lee’s Summit North at home on Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m.
