The Lady Jags are 9-6 so far this season, but they are still fighting hard to win the title of conference champs.

The girls won their first conference game against Lee’s Summit, 63-58. Although there seems to be some tough opponents in their upcoming games, the girls basketball team is not going to give up without giving it their all.

Coach Brad Oyler explains who the team’s toughest opponent in conference might be and how they are preparing for the rest of the conference games.

“We need to do a better job defensively, especially on the drive,” Oyler said.  “Another thing we are really working hard on is our rebounding. We aren’t a very tall team, and we are just about out-sized every game. All our conference opponents are going to be tough because it’s pretty well balanced in girls basketball this year, but if I had to pick one, Lee’s Summit North.”

Sophomore Tori Findley explains how she thinks the team will do in conference.

“I think we will do pretty good. We’ve only played one game and we won that, so we’ll see but we are pretty confident,” said Findley.

The Lady Jags are trying hard to win all their conference games and go undefeated but it’s not as easy as it seems.  Junior Tiffany Davenport explains all the girls have to focus on to win conference.

“We know what teams we for sure have to beat. There are some teams that have already lost but we still need to take those games very seriously to have our record be the best. We really have to focus on Lee’s Summit North because they are the only other team that’s undefeated in conference besides us,” Davenport said.

The girls are putting in work everyday at practice to be the best they can be and to accomplish their goal of being conference champs. Sophomore Kaylee Connors explains how the girls have a good chance at winning if they just keep working hard.

“Conference is kind of up and down, I think it’s open for anyone to win. I think we have a pretty good chance of winning, but we have to work hard,”  Connors said.
